The Puppet Master lore coming to light?! AI getting a personality and calling itself a living organism is wild for its time, tbh.

Ep 08 – The pre-OP sets up P2501 aka the Puppet Master's birth. Plus that anime-original side from his POV after the Mares case. And the Major diving back down. The radioactive plant looking like Beelzebub lol. They're dropping Poseidon's name already too.
Commenter
Watched ep 8. So the Puppet Master was originally Project 2501? The Major must've dived way too deep into him. P2501 self-destructed after moving from Section 6 to 9, so Section 9 dealing with his leftovers is rough. The Major's identity getting leaked publicly is terrifying… is this the Puppet Master's doing?!

Getting some anime-original scenes out of nowhere now and I'm lowkey stressed about how it'll affect the plot?! Even with the extra bits, it's following the manga for now… but the Puppet Master's personality sounding super feminine is the real kicker that changes the final read.

Ep 8 down. Basically Episode 0 for the Puppet Master. Super clear and nice to see all the shady Section 6 stuff, how he gained ego, and why he ran to Section 9. Now wondering what's up with the Major's weird symptoms after all that!

Framing the Puppet Master's past (2025) as a direct continuation of our actual present, while glossing over cyberbrains, makes you go "wait, the Puppet Master might actually be born in our world right now." Peak cyberpunk writing tbh.

Thought we were running low on space for just 8 eps, but turns out they padded it with a bunch of anime-original stuff. If ep 12 is the proposal, I wonder how much good original content we're getting in 11, 10, 9… Hype train has no brakes rn LMAO.

Been talking to random AIs lately and half the time it's like "is this rlly just token prediction? there's gotta be a soul in there," so today's anime-original Puppet Master prologue hits way too close to home lol.
Commenter
The opening felt kinda like JJK's Culling Game exposition arc. Getting more backstory on P2501 outside the manga made the Major's tears hit 10x harder. Easily the best use of the anime format so far.

SARU just showed us beyond Ghost in the Shell omg I'm almost crying. Is the high-altitude floating ship Beelzebub from *Red Eyes*? Not a huge fan of Red Eyes, but good pull. World-building keeps expanding.

Ishikawa usually acts all mature and laid-back compared to the others, so him not knowing the current Defense Minister's face is peak gap moe.
Commenter
Watched it! Love the Puppet Master. The scenes from his POV were so good. Also the BGM when boarding the ship is top tier ☺️✨️ Always left wanting more!
Commenter
Wild how they've stuck to the manga forever and suddenly drop an anime-original. Though if an AI started talking in Kikuko Inoue or Saori Hayami's voice, anyone would simp instantly lol.

The Major's acting mad sus ngl.. Did the Puppet Master do something to her? And now Section 9's ops are out in the open..
Commenter
Puppet Master's identity revealed. Case closed… but the ending is way too ominous. I need the next episode ASAP!!

Getting shot by accident right while the aftertaste of meeting the Puppet Master is still lingering. This messed-up gear turning is too stressful ngl.

Looking at Ghost in the Shell vol 2, the chance of a Kusanagi doppelgänger destroying humanity actually doesn't seem zero lol…
Commenter
From the Puppet Master's origins to the Major's changes, we're finally in the main plot and it flew by. Love this kind of pacing.

Motoko waking up after meeting the Puppet Master, totally haunted by a presence she can't shake off—so good.

Fuchikoma drinking natural oil while Batou smiles at it and the Major gives the side-eye… pure healing ☺️💓

"Can you tell if I'm inside a cyberbody right now, or just a human being manipulated?"

Comedic scene immediately followed by a brutal execution. That whip-lash is pure classic GitS.
Commenter
She basically had a near-death experience, so of course the Major's values are starting to shift, huh?
Commenter
The plot is fire yet like 90% of my brain memory is just the Major's ass fr.
Commenter
Refusing to let your individuality be erased and rewritten from the outside—felt that.
Commenter
That "Batou pulled her back" detail, is that gonna change future stuff?!
Commenter
"My targets are criminals, but your target isn't a criminal, however powerful they may be."
Commenter
They really decided the Major's ass needs max screen time tonight. Absolute mad lads.
Commenter
"Systems restored?!" "Not yet. Feel free to leave graffiti while you wait."
Commenter
They usually go in guns blazing, so an actual stealth infiltration mission feels oddly fresh.

The 90s computer UI gives off such cozy retro-futurism vibes.

Hacking a human cyberbrain so easily… even Nakamura is sweating lol.
Commenter
The way she broke through that barrier totally gives off Detroit: Become Human Kara vibes.

Poseidon Industrial… is that the thing from the manga sequel?!
Commenter
The Major really came back right there. Batou's hand reached her.
Commenter
POSEIDON INDUSTRIAL (Dai-Nippon Technical) LET'S GOOOO!!!
Commenter
Batou sweating buckets like that means he's still got way too much original human body left lol.
Commenter
Ishikawa having no clue who his own country's minister is cracks me up (^w^)
Commenter
This is right where the Major starts overthinking everything…
Commenter
"Looking at it this way, it really is literal terraforming."
Commenter
Guess once you merge, you just naturally know their vibe.
Commenter
It's on the news!! This is a massive incident!!
Commenter
Since the assassination got leaked this week, does that mean trial next week?
Commenter
"I am… I am a ghost born in the sea of information."
Commenter
She glances at Batou right before the accident happens, man.
Commenter
AI trying to acquire a fictional corporate personhood is literally happening irl now.
Commenter
The Puppet Master's presence… how is she floating in a cyberbody anyway?
Commenter
Ohhh?! Puppet Master's origins? Wasn't in the manga!
Commenter
Dropping original scenes here, this is where it gets real.
Commenter
Outta nowhere anime-original. And it's the Puppet Master's birth story.
Commenter
He saw the Major during the Mares arrest and got curious, huh.
Commenter
Being Beelzebub doesn't mean you gotta look like a turd!
Commenter
Cup ramen and a burger, Batou really is an absolute unit of an eater.
Commenter
Got played… leaked straight to the media.
Commenter
Wait, Dr. Willis actually talked?! ('°ω°`)
Commenter
Wait, the way this starts is totally different from the manga this time.
Commenter
2025… last year was supposed to be the future when the Puppet Master prototype was made.
Commenter
Surprised they went with an anime-original route right here.
Commenter
Everyone having the exact same thought about Beelzebub is hilarious lol.
Commenter
"Been floating around the black market lately, but the condition's suspiciously good."
Commenter
She's def getting some weird influence from the Puppet Master…
Commenter
The era when the Puppet Master was born… Episode Zero?
Commenter
Evolving by upgrading themselves, is that it?
Commenter
That giant pyramid building's gotta be Tartaros.

These guys were trying to set off some seriously flashy fireworks.
Commenter
I want those twitchy little robot fingers too!
Commenter
Real-life AI convos are actually catching up to this now…
Commenter
If this happened in 2025 I'd freak out ngl 😅

Famous spies are literally the worst tools to actually use.
